It’s a Bank Holiday weekend so they want to ensure that everyone who wants a meal in the lovely old school rooms there has a firm booking. On Sunday 4 August 10 members met in Stourpaine for a hike by the River Iwerne, then over Hod and Hambledon hills and down to Shroton where we enjoyed an excellent pub lunch at The Cricketers before returning to Stourpaine. I (Babs) am leading the walk on Sunday 23rd June. Its a Fig. 8 in the Sturminster Newton area. Its fairly flat, mostly fields with a bit of lane. Lunch is booked for the Swan in the town centre. I have used them before and as with last time they have asked for a definite number eating as they are busy Sundays.

I must have been tempting providence when I wrote in the September Newsletter last year, “Heat and humidity did slow the pace of some of our walks and occasionally took its toll on individuals. It was a salutary reminder of some golden rules: Carry sufficient water; Take a small snack to keep up the energy levels and don’t be embarrassed to miss out the afternoon session on a figure of 8 walk if you are feeling drained”.See full story...
