A Letter from our Chairman

Hi everyone, I must have been tempting providence when I wrote in the September Newsletter last year, “Heat and humidity did slow the pace of some of our walks and occasionally took its toll on individuals. It was a salutary reminder of some golden rules: Carry sufficient water; Take a small snack to keep up the energy levels and don’t be embarrassed to miss out the afternoon session on a figure of 8 walk if you are feeling drained”.      See full story...

Membership Cards

These are being designed and printed now and we hope to let you have them very soon. The intention is that you will be able to use the card for discounts in various ‘outdoor’ type stores and you will receive a new card annually.      See full story...

Tiverton Canal Horse Drawn Barge Trip

This event had to be cancelled because of poor weather in Sept 2018 but has now been rescheduled for Sunday 8 September. We will meet at the canal basin (directions on separate sheet) at 10 am for a very pleasant 4.8 mile walk with views (there is a hill) and along the canal.      See full story...

AGM Saturday 12 October 2019 at 2pm

Other Social Events

The quiz walks are proving popular and fun has been had in solving the clues in teams, usually with a good lunch to follow. More villages / towns are being researched and planned – Cerne Abbas, Sherborne and Glastonbury are all available and we feel now that enough time has lapsed since the Dorchester one to repeat this.      See full story...

A Note from our Chairman - January 2019

Hi everyone, So, another New Year and by the way subs are due if you have not already crossed the palm of the Treasurer with silver. If you have made any New Year resolutions, how are they faring? I have restricted myself to two this time and I am backing myself not to break either.      See full story...

Subscriptions 2019

As David mentioned, subs are now due for 2019. It was agreed at the AGM that the annual subscription would rise from £8.50 to £10. This is to cover rising costs for publicity, website and other expenses plus something in balances and this ‘rounded up’ sum makes for easier accounting too! We hope you still feel that you get value for money (it works out at 83p per month!).      See full story...

Membership Cards

We are planning to produce a membership card for everyone who has paid their membership this year. The intention is that you will be able to use the card for discounts in various ‘outdoor’ type stores. They will be sent / given out once they have been printed.      See full story...

Update - Tiverton Canal

An update on TIVERTON CANAL HORSE DRAWN BARGE TRIP which had to be cancelled because of poor weather last Sept. James still has the money paid by members for this visit but we are hoping to offer another opportunity on the next programme (to date they have not yet published their 2019 times and dates, hence the postponement until Autumn).      See full story...

Bridport Town Quiz / Treasure Hunt

Saturday 11 February 2019, 10am for 10.15 start. 19 people attended the Shaftesbury Quiz Walk on Sunday 28 October which attests to the popularity of these events. Daphne and Jenny recently took part in the Quiz Walk in Bridport, organised by Richard and Brenda N. for Sherborne U3A and it was so enjoyable that they wanted to offer this to Dorset Ramblers in the next programme. Saturday has been chosen rather than Sunday in order to take advantage of the shops and markets in the town - it will be busier but, they thought, more fun.      See full story...

Spring / Summer Social

The majority of committee felt that evenings in March are still too dark to tempt people out for a get- together, so we will not run the proposed pub meal that was announced in last newsletter. Instead we are floating two ideas for summer which we hope will be of interest for our regular walkers as well as members (and some ex-members) who are now less able to join walks.      See full story...

Summer Outing 7 July 2019

A Message from our Chairman - September 2018

Hi everyone, After bemoaning the cold and wet winter and its effects on the programme last time, we have had a magnificent warm, dry summer and some excellent walks and outings. However the heat and humidity did slow the pace of some of our walks and occasionally took its toll on individuals. It was a salutary reminder of some golden rules:      See full story...
