Re-starting Walks Programme

We are delighted to say that we plan to resume our regular Sunday walks again from the beginning of October. Clearly walks will be undertaken in a COVID compliant manner and in line with Government Guidelines. We hope to produce our next programme, running from October to the end of January, within the next 2 weeks so please keep an eye on the website for further information for both the upcoming walks and the relevant guidance. Dave R., Walks Secretary, has already been in touch with potential walk leaders and the programme is taking shape. At the time of writing we just have 3 dates to fill. Dave would be delighted to hear from anyone willing to fill any of these slots and will advise on the available dates.      See full story...

Suspension of Walks - Coronavirus

The Dorset Ramblers Committee position with regard to the declared pandemic has been that we must follow guidance and advice from Public Health England on the appropriate course of action to take for our various planned activities and events. The fact that the UK has now moved to a far more restrictive regime of control measures, with 'social distancing' and the ‘encouraged’ self-isolation of those over 70, together with curtailment of travel unless absolutely necessary, means that we must, very regrettably, suspend the current walks programme until further notice, cancelling activities planned during April and May. I cannot give any information about the HF isle of Wight holiday but I am trusting that Jo C will be providing an update to booked participants. We will be looking to incorporating some if not all of the cancelled walks in the next programme as, if and when there is clearance to resume. Meanwhile look after yourselves, keep well, and exercise inin your ‘social isolation’ activities      See full story...

A Letter from our Chairman

Hi everyone, I must have been tempting providence when I wrote in the September Newsletter last year, “Heat and humidity did slow the pace of some of our walks and occasionally took its toll on individuals. It was a salutary reminder of some golden rules: Carry sufficient water; Take a small snack to keep up the energy levels and don’t be embarrassed to miss out the afternoon session on a figure of 8 walk if you are feeling drained”.      See full story...

A Note from our Chairman - January 2019

Hi everyone, So, another New Year and by the way subs are due if you have not already crossed the palm of the Treasurer with silver. If you have made any New Year resolutions, how are they faring? A Message from our Chairman - September 2018

Hi everyone, After bemoaning the cold and wet winter and its effects on the programme last time, we have had a magnificent warm, dry summer and some excellent walks and outings. However the heat and humidity did slow the pace of some of our walks and occasionally took its toll on individuals. It was a salutary reminder of some golden rules:      See full story...

Letter from our Chairman - January 2018

Hi Everyone, Welcome to our 71st year! This is the first newsletter since I was elected your Chair at the October 2017 AGM and my first chance to thank my predecessor, Denise F. for the gentle but firm and enthusiastic way she conducted her year in office. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Denise a speedy recovery to full health and look forward to her reappearing on our walks as soon as she is able.      See full story...
