Our summer outing this year will be to Otterton on Sunday 7th July. June this year seems to be a very busy month; most of the committee have holidays, Open Gardens, examining etc. so the summer outing has been put back until the first Sunday in July. This year we are planning to go to Otterton in Devon; Otterton is a delightful village near Budleigh Salterton on the River Otter and 53 miles from Sherborne, under 1 ½ hrs by car. There is a historic working watermill with bakery, cafe-restaurant and shop, gift shop and art gallery and an excellent the village pub. We hope to have coffee at the mill, then a riverside stroll along the River Otter to its mouth – a haven for thousands of birds. We then take a really scenic walk along the top of the cliffs on the coast path towards Sidmouth and cut back into Otterton. It’s a 5.5 mile circular walk, not strenuous but timings need to be worked out as does transport. Lunch will be at the Kings Arms in Otterton. If non walkers would like to come, they can stay by the River Otter (plenty of benches) or visit Bicton Gardens which is very close.
As you know, travelling by coach is very costly and difficult to fill but if Jenny has some idea of numbers she can work out costs of hiring a minibus etc. so please fill in slip at the end bearing in mind that more details will be announced in next newsletter.
