Brownsea Island Guided Walk, Dorset Wildlife

Sunday 8 October 2017

Meet at the Quay, by the Yellow Brownsea Island Ferry kiosk at 10am for the 10.30 ferry. Adult ticket is £10.75 (group is £9.25 but we need to be 15+, which I will organise if we get enough people - currently 10).

The Yellow Kiosk is about 100 yds from the Quay Visitors Multi-Storey Car Park,  postcode BH15 1SB. If you Google Maps the postcode, you will find the location. When approaching Poole, follow the directions for the Quay. Collect a ticket when you enter the Car Park, and pay when you get back to your car. You pay £1 for each hour you park.  There should also be plenty of on street parking at that time on a Sunday.

The walk

We will meet Chloe, our guide, at the jetty on Brownsea at 11am and begin our tour. The walk is about 1 ½ miles and 1 ½ hrs and just explores the area that Dorset Wildlife manages. We should see red squirrels at that time of year and flocks of waders in the lagoon. Bring raingear, binoculars and ‘sturdy footwear’. The charge for this private group tour per person will depend on how many of us there are but should not exceed £3. There is also a landing fee for non National Trust members of £7.70 (gift aid) and £6.75 (standard, but free for Dorset Wildlife if just staying on DWL land).

Return ferries are at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour and take 40 mins. There is a very decent modern open plan Italian restaurant on the Quay, with views over Poole Harbour called CHAT, which I intended to book for a late lunch. Da Vinci’s is also possible, more traditional and possibly more pricey. Alternatively – and especially if you have had to pay the NT landing fee – you may want to stay on Brownsea and use the cafe there – or bring sandwiches. Rosemary J has volunteered to lead a walk on one of the recommended trails. These decisions can be made on the day. Please see Newsletter and fill in slip at the end (but only if you have not yet done so).

P.S. I have booked the school minibus but not sure at the moment of I will use it – so please, if you would like to join us and do not want to drive,  let me know.
