Change of season and a new programme of walks for the autumn. What a lovely summer it has been, although a bit slow to start with such a poor June. However, I for one have revelled in the hot days and hope you all have too. It has been a good period of interesting and varied events. The Social with Quiz organised by John was a fun evening. Maybe if repeated we might choose a different venue but it was enjoyable. Then the Summer Outing to the Heddon Valley, Jenny N’s wonderful choice to such a beautiful area in Devon. Also an event prepared and executed by Jenny, was the Summer Social at Sherborne Girls’ school with Daphne’s choir and viewing of the girls’ art work. Sadly this had to be the absolute last time for this event which we have enjoyed for some years. Jenny has retired from the school but it has been a highlight of our summer programmes. Then we had a splendid gathering of members, both past and present to wish John a very happy, dare I say it! 90th Birthday. Subterfuge by Amy and others achieved getting John to the White Horse totally oblivious to what awaited him. He loved it.

To more serious matters. The AGM approaches. It is Saturday 15th October at Old School Church Hall in Shillingstone. We shall again have a speaker, this time from Dorset Wildlife Trust. The subject will be: Gardening for Wildlife, a subject which I imagine will be of interest for many of you. (Bring a plate for refreshments please). This venue has specifically been chosen as near to members in the Blandford area. We try to be in different parts of our catchment area for members from year to year.

This time we have some resignations. I am stepping down as Chair, Sandra is giving up as Walks Programme Secretary and John is leaving too. Neither John nor I walk much at all these days and the committee needs to be composed of more active members. We are a walking group after all. Happily, with three of us going, you are going to welcome three new members to take our places. We have nominations for the Chair, Walks Programme Secretary and also for a new Committee member. Should any of you have been thinking of nominating anyone else, we are still happy to have that nomination. If we find ourselves in the happy position of a vote for any position, that merely indicates the health of the group in that members have an interest in giving back something in return for the enjoyment they get from belonging to a thriving walking club.

I wish you all to continue to enjoy the life of the club in all its aspects. I shall keep in touch on the occasional easy walk!
