Walk - RSPB Arne 13 November

Sun on heath land, birdsong all around: it was a very special ramble for the 16 of us who toured the RSPB bird sanctuary at Arne last Sunday. Our guide, Rod, wise in bird lore, clearly loved the birds he identified for us: Dartford warblers and meadow pipits on the heath, spoonbills, curlews and cormorants on the mudflats and lagoons. Three of us, lingering in a hide, absorbed in our bird watching, managed to get detached from the rest, but otherwise it was a perfect day, with the drive home bathed in light from the setting sun and an extra lovely moon - closer to earth than it has been for 70 years.
