Letter from our Chairman - January 2018

Hi Everyone, Welcome to our 71st year! This is the first newsletter since I was elected your Chair at the October 2017 AGM and my first chance to thank my predecessor, Denise F. for the gentle but firm and enthusiastic way she conducted her year in office. Weymouth Town Quiz /Treasure Hunt Sunday - 22 April

We have planned another town quiz, this time in Weymouth and on a normal Sunday. These quizzes are great fun – you will be sent out in teams, preferably of 3 / 4, to try to solve as many of the clues as possible. You get to see parts of the town you may not have noticed or ventured near and there should be time for a coffee stop.      See full story...

Summer Outing - Kelmscott Manor and Buscot Park 7 June 2018

The date for this summer outing was announced in the last newsletter; now it is time to secure your place on this exciting day by returning the form below with a deposit of £16 to James E by Mon 12 Feb. Please be aware that in order to ensure a full coach and keep costs down I have offered this visit to my U3A art groups and will be asking for their slips and deposits from 15 February; once this has been requested I cannot guarantee places will be left for Dorset Ramblers.      See full story...

Coleridge Way 2018

The proposed date for first section is 23 –26 May 2018 The Coleridge Way is 51 miles through the stunning Somerset countryside of the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor, a landscape that inspired Coleridge to produce some of his best known work. Tiverton Canal - Horse Drawn Barge Trip

Verbal feedback for this event has been enthusiastic and this will certainly be organised, most likely for next September. The date will be on next newsletter (cost for 2 ½ hr trip will not exceed £13 but depends on chosen day and timetable).      See full story...

AGM Saturday 13 October 2018

AGM to be held at the Leigh Village Hall at 2pm, We change our venue for the AGM biennially and this year we are going back to the spacious and well designed village hall at Leigh.      See full story...

70th Birthday celebrations and Christmas Dinner

Saturday 16 / Sunday 17 December 2017 at Dorset Golf and Country Club, BH20 7NT, near Bere Regis. We are once again grateful to Angie S, who has secured a booking for us at the Golf and Country Club. DR members are, as usual, invited to stay overnight after the Christmas meal, enjoy breakfast on Sunday and a morning walk led by Rita and Angie in the immediate vicinity.      See full story...

Walk Programmes

The walks programme is now available as a PDF document on the website. This is in addition to the e-mail/hard copies you receive 3 times a year along with the calendar on the web detailing all the walks and events with relevant maps giving approximate locations.
