About the Dorset Ramblers

The Dorset Ramblers is an independent club affiliated to the Ramblers Association.  For other RA groups in Dorset contact www.dorset-ramblers.org.uk.

Our main purpose is to arrange a series of Sunday walks throughout the year in Dorset and neighbouring counties.

The walks vary between 4 and 10 miles and can be circular, figure of eight or even linear.  There is normally a pub lunch arranged with the occasional picnic in the summer.  Dorset offers varied and unspoilt countryside and so we are able to enjoy coastal and inland scenery often with spectacular views.  Visitors are welcome but no dogs please.  We are a small friendly club and always ready to welcome new members.

We normally have about 10-18 people on our Sunday rambles and a Social Programme that is well supported.

In addition, we usually arrange one group holiday abroad and at least one short break holiday in this country each year.  A summer outing further afield is usually offered annually.

Our members receive a programme with details of walks and social activities three times per year (end of January, May and September).

Members may be interested in the Walking in England website which has thousands of free walks to download and print.  This website with walks from Cornwall to Cumbria to Kent and from one to twenty miles is packed with useful information.  Links take you to walking books, maps and every walking group in the country.  John Harris, a keen walker, was frustrated to find that although there is a lot of walking information on the web it is often inaccessible.  John took 3 years to search many websites to find thousands of walks featured on Walking in England.
